Purpose
Poor data management can lead to inefficiencies, increased costs, and poor decision-making, while good data management can improve efficiency and support strategic decision-making.
How to meet this standard
What Data Stewards must do
- Ensure relevant data policies, standards and patterns are incorporated into their business area systems and processes and maintain auditable logs relevant to their business area.
- Document data access, processing, use and sharing in line with legitimate business use.
What Information Asset Owners must do
- Document any new data collection (s) and assign relevant responsible personnel and appropriate governance.
What Senior Responsible Owners must do
- Assign and formally document relevant roles and responsibilities.
What Data Compliance Teams must do
- Ensure relevant policies and procedures on data and information management are created, tested and published.
- Ensure policies, standards and patterns are reviewed at least annually, improving, where necessary, data management activities to remain legally compliant.
- Ensure projects, programs and initiatives complete the data management checklist(s).
- Carry out periodic audits, data maturity assessments and reviews to ensure alignment with data management rules.
- Inform Legal Advisors Office (LAO) where any regulatory or legal obligation is impacted.
Declaring conformance with this standard
Conformance with the standard must be recorded every 12 months.
